Brush fire

West Kelowna fire crews quickly had a brush fire under control Wednesday night.

The fire was reported around 6 p.m. behind the Johnson Bentley Memorial Aquatic Centre.

High winds fanned the flames from the brush into the trees behind the pool.

The West Kelowna fire department responded with three fire trucks a rescue/bush truck and about a dozen firefighters.

By 7 p.m. the team had a guard around the fire and they extinguishing the last of the flames.

It burned approximately a 50 square foot section of grass and trees. They used chainsaws to knock down a few of the trees during the mop up.

RCMP are investigating and they were questioning people who were on the trail system that runs through the fields behind the pool.

Last year several fires were sparked in the same area by people who were camping.
