West Kelowna fire crews were called to a house fire on Ranch Road Tuesday night.
The fire started in a grow operation in the basement at around 9:30.
Crews quickly got the fire under control using an incendiary device that acts like an extinguisher to take the fire down.
Assistant Fire Chief Darren Lee says, "When the first crew arrived the resident had evacuated the home, and they directed us to where the fire was. (We) worked our way to the basement and we confined the fire in the basement. Our protocol is once we realize there is a grow-op we back off until we get Hydro in. And right now we are just waiting for Hydro right now and they are going to disconnect the house and make it safe for us to finish off the fire fight."
There are no reported injuries.
The fire department says the 'grow' appears to be legal, but the RCMP are investigating.
The home sustained heavy smoke and water damage.
