Update: 4:45 p.m. -
BC Hydro tells Castanet the power outage, Wednesday afternoon, was caused by strong winds that blew flags on a safety line into the power line below.
The safety line was strung above the power line, as a crane was to be working in the area and BC Hyrdo used the flags as a warning to the crane operator.
Update 3:45 p.m. - Power was restored to all customers shortly before 3:30 Wednesday afternoon. Apparently wind blew trees down, knocking down a high tension wire.
Power is out to nearly 2,400 BC Hydro customers in West Kelowna.
The power went out shortly after 2:30 p.m. Wednesday and, according to BC Hydro's website, may not be restored fully until about 5 p.m. this evening.
The affected area is east of Highway 97, west of Wetton Road and south of Saddleback Place.
