Update 11:30 a.m. Nov 1 - West Kelowna fire officials say homemade fireworks were responsible for a hedge fire on Lower Glenrosa Road on Halloween night.
Fire department official, Brian Collier, says the firework was a gunpowder composition in a metal tube.
"(It was) similar to a 'fountain.' It would have involved the igniting of the gunpowder and basically shooting into the air about six feet or so. He had it way too close to the hedge," says Collier.
About 50 feet of the man's own hedge was consumed by the fire.
The man attempted to put out the fire prior to crews arriving. Fire fighters were able to extinguish it.
Collier says the man was detained by RCMP for a matter unrelated to the fireworks or the fire.
