Power play leads Prince George Cougars past Kelowna Rockets

The power play made all the difference for the Prince George Cougars, as they powered past the Kelowna Rockets 4-1 Saturday.

The win, their first of the season, allowed the Cougars to earn a split of back-to-back games in Prince George.

Jack Sander opened the scoring late in the opening period on a PG power play, when his shot deflected off the post and in past Roman Basran.

Ethan Samson made it 2-0 midway through the second, tapping in a perfect back door feed on another man advantage.

Nolan Foote got that one back a few minutes later, blasting a shot past Tyler Brennan with Kelowna enjoying an extra man.

The Rockets had one chance with the man advantage in the third, but were unable to beat Brennan.

They were able to generate only five shots during the final 20 minutes.

The Cougars put the game away with a pair of empty net goals in the final minute.

The Rockets, 4-2-1-0, head down the I-5 to Seattle Friday before returning home to face the Kamloops Blazers Saturday.
