Rockets closer to clinching

The Kelowna Rockets didn't get the two points they desired, but a single point did move them a little closer to clinching a playoff spot.

But, the single point in the 2-1 loss in Kamloops leaves the Rockets six points clear of the Blazers.

Kelowna has four games left in the regular season. The Blazers hold a game in hand.

The game was scoreless until Martin Lang got the Blazers on the scoreboard 16 minutes into the second period.

The Rockets tied it four minutes into the third when Nolan Foote notched his team-leading 34th at the tail end of a five-on-three power play.

The goaltenders kept the offence at bay the rest of the third and through the five-minute overtime period.

Connor Zary and Orrin Centazzo both beat Roman Basran in the shootout. The Rockets were unable to solve rookie Dylan Garand on their two opportunities.

The Rockets and Blazers meet again in another crucial four-pointer Saturday at Prospera Place.
