The Kelowna Rockets have opened up some breathing room over the Kamloops Blazers in the battle for third in the BC Division.
The Rockets completed a four point weekend Saturday, beating back the Blazers 4-1 in Kamloops in a key four-pointer.
Lassi Thomson led the way for Kelowna with a pair of goals and one assist.
Mark Liwiski and Leif Mattson also scored, while Alex Swetlikoff and Kyle Topping each picked up a pair of assists.
Roman Basran saw his bid for a shutout dashed when Jermaine Loewen scored a power play marker with less than a second left in the second period.
Liwiski opened the scoring just shy of the midway point of the first. Thomson's shot popped out of Dylan Ferguson's glove, hit Liwiski and went in.
The officials on the ice initially waved it off, but after a review, the goal stood.
Thomson doubled the lead with a short-side wrist shot on a second period power play early in the second. With another man advantage, Mattson grabbed a loose puck, and beat Ferguson to put Kelowna up 3-0.
Thomson closed out the scoring with his 15th into an empty net.
The Rockets are now off until Friday when they entertain the US Division-leading Everett Silvertips. The BC-leading Vancouver Giants hit Prospera Place Saturday.
