Rockets blasted by Tips

The Everett Silvertips broke open a tight game with five unanswered goals in an 8-2 thumping of the Kelowna Rockets in the Washington city Saturday.

The win gave the Silvertips a weekend sweep of the home-and-home series, following Friday's 3-2 win at Prospera Place.

Everett opened the scoring on a power play when Patrick Bajkov scored his first of three on the night just 45 seconds in.

The lead didn't last long. Cal Foote tied it just 14 seconds later.

Kevin Davis midway through the first and Garrett Pilon early in the second, but the Tips up 3-1.

Foote's second, three minutes after Pilon's, got the Rockets back in it.

But, it would prove the last time would be able to beat Carter Hart.

Everett chased starter Cole Tisdale with two more second period goals before scoring three times on Brodan Salmond in the third period.

Bajkov had two assists to go along with his three goals Saturday. He was named the game's first star in both wins over the Rockets.

Kole Lind was held without a point in the game, snapping his consecutive point streak at 20-games, one shy of the Rockets record of 21.

The win moved Everett three points up on the Rockets atop the Western Conference standings.

As for the Rockets, the loss, coupled with Victoria's 3-2 overtime win in Seattle, moved the Royals back into a first place tie with Kelowna in the BC Division.

Kelowna still holds two games in hand.

Next up for the Rockets, a Wednesday date with the Vancouver Giants at Prospera Place, before a pair of games in Victoria Friday and Saturday.
