Porter named top goalie

Kelowna Rockets goaltender James Porter has been named the Western Hockey League goaltender of the week.

Porter, 17, allowed just one goal in a pair of wins over the Kamloops Blazers coming out of the Christmas break.

He gave up one goal and stopped all four shots in a shootout in a 2-1 victory over the Blazers Wednesday. He backed that up with 28 saves in a 3-0 win in Kamloops.

Porter registered a sparkling 0.48 goals against average and a .987 save percentage.

In his first season with the Rockets after being selected in the seventh round of the 2015 draft, Porter has put up an impressive 15-5-2-0 record with a 3.22 goals against average and a pair of shutouts.

Porter and the Rockets put their 12-game home ice winning streak on the line Wednesday when they host the Tri- City Americans. Seattle makes its first trip to Prospera Place Friday.
