Rockets get Giant task

The Kelowna Rockets and Vancouver Giants get set to do battle in the first of eight meetings between the BC Division rivals this season.

The two teams hook up Friday at Prospera Place.

The Rockets are coming off a three-game road trip in which they picked up three of a possible six points, including a split of back-to-back games in Victoria.

Rockets head coach Jason Smith says hee's looking for a complete 60 minute effort from his team.

"We want to play a complete game. Lately we've done a better job of competing and playing for 60 minutes, and that's going to be our focal point from the start," Smith said.

"We just have to make sure we're working hard and playing as a team from start to finish."

The Rockets took seven of eight games against the Giants a year ago.

Friday's game is the first of two on home ice this weekend.

Saturday, the Red Deer Rebels come to town, a team they don't see very often.

"We watch video beforehand and see what their tendencies are and come up with a game plan based on that," said Smith.

"We need to worry about what we're doing, and we need to make sure our execution and our systematic play is where it needs to be, if we do those things we'll be able to have success."

The Rockets and Rebels split their two games last season.
