Big nights for Lind, Dube

Two of the three Kelowna Rockets participating at the CIBC Canada-Russia hockey series had big offensive nights to kick off the six-game series.

Kole Lind paced the WHL squad Monday night in Moose Jaw with a pair of goals and an assist while Dillon Dube scored once and set up another.

Their effort was more than enough as Team WHL spanked the Russian 7-0.

Lind opened the scoring with the lone goal of the opening period. It would stand up as the game winner.

He added another midway through the second to give the WHL a 3-0 lead.

Dube picked up an assist on Tyler Steenbergen's 5-0 goal, before closing out the scoring himself early in the third.

Defenceman Kale Clague of the Brandon Wheat Kings had three assists in the win.

“We had a good start to the game, that’s what we carried on throughout the whole game. They had little spurts of their chances, but we definitely capitalized when we needed to and Hartsy [Carter Hart] definitely stood out tonight too," said Lind.

“We’re definitely a really fast team too. That showed tonight.”

Lind and Steenbergen led the WHL squad with five shots apiece.

A third member of the Rockets on Team WHL, defenceman Cal Foote, was held off the scoresheet.

Lind was named the WHL's player of the game.

The two teams face off again Tuesday in Swift Current.
