Rockets run streak to 3

The Kelowna Rockets didn't let a little thing like an all night bus trip get in the way of their latest winning streak.

The Rockets made it three in a row with a convincing 5-1 win in Seattle Saturday.

The Rockets, who played Friday night at home, travelled through the night to get to Seattle for Saturday's showdown with the T-Birds.

They weathered the Thunderbirds push over the first six to 10 minutes, then pushed back themselves, taking over for much of the rest of the game.

After a scoreless first, rookie Kyle Topping opened the scoring five minutes into the second. It was his first WHL goal, but by no means was he done.

After Kole Lind made it 2-0, Topping proved when you get one, the rest will follow.

He added his second of the night early in the third then, for good measure, completed the hat trick late in the period.

Jack Cowell also notched his first career goal in the third.

Michael Herringer's bid for his second shutout of the season was foiled when Ian Briscoe beat him with just 20 seconds left in the game.

Herringer stopped 36 shots to earn the win and first star honours in Seattle.

The Rockets, 6-7 on the season, will try to reach the .500 mark for the first time since the opening weekend of the season when they entertain Victoria Wednesday.

Then, it's back on the bus for back-to-back games in Portland Saturday and Sunday.
