Rockets get good news

Barring any unforeseen developments, the Kelowna Rockets should dress a full lineup Friday when they begin a five-game road trip in Prince George.

Forward Calvin Thurkauf, who's been playing with the Columbus Blue Jackets,  and defenceman Lucas Johansen, who's been playing with the Washington Capitals, will join the team in Prince George.

Both were released by their NHL clubs Wednesday night.

Dillon Dube was also sent back to the Rockets by the Calgary Flames, although his return date is not known.

That leaves only Nick Merkley at an NHL camp. The 2015 first-round draft pick remains in the Arizona Coyotes camp.

The Rockets have dressed less than the full 20-man roster for their first three games of the season. They split their opening two games with Kamloops before falling 2-1 at home to the Cougars Wednesday night.

The status of sophomore defenceman Braydyn Chizen for Friday's game is uncertain.

Chizen slid hard into the side boards after being cross-checked to the ice. He left the ice doubled over and did not return.

No penalty was called.

The Rockets and Cougars will also play Saturday in Prince George.

Kelowna then heads to Alberta for a three-game swing through Lethbridge, Edmonton and Red Deer.
