3 Rockets on scouting list

Three members of the Kelowna Rockets are among 56 Western Hockey League players listed on NHL Central Scouting’s final rankings, released Wednesday.

The rankings are in advance of the 2015 NHL entry draft to be held June 26 and 27 in Sunrise, Fla.

Forward Nick Merkley is ranked 23rd among North American skaters, while defencemen Devante Stephens (116) and Joe Gatenby (174) were also ranked.

The list does not include European skaters and goaltenders.

Merkley's rank could see him as a late first- or early second-round selection, with Stephens a possible fourth- or fifth-round pick and Gatenby a sixth- to seventh-round selection.

Connor McDavid and Jack Eichel remain ranked first and second, respectively.

Merkley led the Rockets in scoring this past regular season with 20 goals and 70 assists while playing all 72 games. He has a goal and five assists in four playoff games.

Stephens, the club's rookie of the year, had four goals and 11 assists in 64 games, while Gatenby notched two goals and 13 assists in 65 games.

Meanwhile, five other players with ties to the Okanagan were also ranked by Central Scouting.

Ryan Gropp (71 - Okanagan Hockey Academy), Tyler Soy (78 - OHA), Chaz Reddekopp (82 - Pursuit of Excellence), Brad Morrison (124 - OHA) and Deven Sideroff (134 - OHA).
