To date, the missing Vernon RCMP member has not been located. The search involving Vernon Search & Rescue, the Okanagan Landing Fire Dept and RCMP resources will proceed first thing this morning.
As of today, the RCMP have brought in a state of the art side scanning sonar from Vancouver. The equipment was trucked in overnight and made several passes of the lake bottom at the search site prior to the search being cancelled on Sunday due to high winds. Sunday, winds on Okanagan Lake were gusting at 40 - 50 knots making conditions for the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team too perilous to proceed.
The name of the missing officer is still being withheld pending location of the body. The mood within the Vernon Detachment remains somber. Nevertheless, Vernon RCMP members remain hopeful their missing companion will be located soon allowing resolution and closure for both his immediate family and all his colleagues with the RCMP.
