Clooney Wanted: Cardboard or Alive

An Enderby businessman has decided to have some fun with all the attention a movie, staring George Clooney, is bringing to town.

“Everyone is asking where’s George? Have you seen George? We are getting calls from Alberta, Saskatchewan you know,” explains Mark McMahon, owner of Empire Re:Productions.

“The truth is I’m sitting in the back of the shop at the end of the day having a rum and coke and I thought to myself, 'I am going to make a life-size George and I am going to put it in front of the building here and then people really could say, ‘..I saw George'.”

So he did just that. With his printing company, McMahon created a life size George Clooney cut-out, which immediately was a huge hit. After another rum and coke, he decided to try and involve local other businesses to provide gift certificates as prizes for those who could find ‘George’ in his cut-out adventures around the small town; and thus the ‘Wanted’ posters were born.

“Some businesses in town aren’t doing so well and everyone needs the buzz, so I was excited when we went from five or 10 businesses involved to 78 business who wanted to join in. Everyone I asked said, ‘I’m in, I’m in', they just wanted to be involved in the community you know. They’ve all kicked in gift certificates and this thing really snowballed,” added McMahon.

In fact, even Hollywood is interested. Clooney’s own movie set staff have now got involved and have dropped by McMahon's business to grab posters for the main man himself to sign, of which McMahon might get one. He says he will donate it to the Lions Club to use to help less fortunate kids get into hockey.

Three life-size ‘Georges’ can now be found throughout the North Okanagan town, if you find him you get to enter for $2,000+ worth of gift certificates and prizes, but remember George moves to a new location every day!

Enderby is one hundred per cent behind the project and the local Lions Club and Legion are throwing a community BBQ at the local Gazebo at the Ball diamond on Saturday September 28. The BBQ will start at noon and then the grand prize draws will be at 4 p.m.

Businesses will set up booths; there will a DJ and an open mic. After it’s all said and done there will be a draw to take home a George cut-out.

“These ladies, they love it, take George home tonight!,” laughed McMahon.

“No insult to George, it's celebrating Enderby, and how excited we are he is in our town,” added McMahon.

Now wouldn’t it be nice if Mr.Clooney himself made a short, very much appreciated, appearance at the community BBQ celebrating his presence?
