Roofers contribute to rooftop blaze

Fire crews were called to an apartment building in Vernon on Tuesday afternoon after a passerby noticed smoke coming from the roof of a building at 4103 Alexis Park Drive around 1:30 p.m.

According to Captain Reinhard Mann of the Vernon Fire Department, roofers laying material had unknowingly created a hot spot in one of the corners, before leaving the scene.

“We saw quite a bit of smoke coming up and then it ignited and we managed to hit it with a hose from down below and then we got some crews on the roof and dug in to the roofing material and found the fire and put it out.”

Mann says there were no injuries and none of the suites were damaged at Parkland Garden Estates.
