Bodies pulled from Kal Lake

Update 1:45 p.m. - The Vernon/North Okanagan RCMP working with Vernon Search and Rescue recovered two men and an overturned car top boat from Kalamalka Lake this morning. The early information the police have learned is, the two men in their 50's were out on a two day camping trip and were to return yesterday afternoon. Both are from Vernon.

Police are in the process of locating and notifying the next of kin. Both of the men were wearing life jackets when they were recovered from the lake this morning.

This case has been turned over to the BC Coroners Service for them to complete their investigation and they will release the names of the two deceased.

The bodies of two people have been located and pulled from Kal Lake near Cosens Bay in Coldstream.

Vernon RCMP and Search and Rescue teams located the bodies late Wednesday morning.

The search was initiated after a Coldstream resident noticed a cooler in the water and one on shore while he was out for a walk in Kal Provincial Park near the dog beach about 7:30 a.m.

He also noticed a dog floating in the water nearby.

RCMP spokesman Gord Molendyk says the dog was deceased.

Police and Search and Rescue combed the area around Cosens Bay where the bodies were located.

Molendyk says the recovery is a bit of a mystery at this time.

He says police have not received any reports of missing people or of an overturned boat in the lake.

Molendyk says RCMP are not releasing the gender of the victims until they can be identified.
