Environmental Mind Grind

Teams from the North and Central Okanagan, the Okanagan Similkameen and the Kootenays are vying for the title of the Environmental Mind Grind Regional Championships today, Saturday, May 7th. Winning teams from elementary, middle and high schools local play-offs from each community will be competing in the regional play-offs to see which team knows the most about local environmental issues. The fourth annual championship is being held at the OUC South Campus Lecture Theatre.

Come and match wits with the students between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. and cheer on teams representing your community. Hosted by Mike Roberts and Chris Cleaver of CHBC, the Challenge promises to be fast-paced fun for all ages.

On April 23rd Vernon, Penticton, Kelowna and Trail hosted local Environmental Mind Grind competitions to see which school teams would represent their community in the play-offs. 102 teams participated.

Uwe Gramann, Assistant Waste Reduction Coordinator says, “This event has been hugely successful with more teams participating every year. The teachers and students rave how Environmental Mind Grind makes learning about environmental issues so much fun.”

The Partners in Environmental Education organizing the Mind Grind event include the Waste Reduction Offices of RDOS, RDNO, RDCO, RDKB, the City of Kelowna Environmental Division, Regional Parks and Recreation Services, Terasen, the Council of Forestry Industries and Water Smart.
