Officer injured after cruiser rolls

An RCMP officer in Vernon was injured early Wednesday morning when his cruiser flipped on Highway 97 north of Vernon.

The officer was taken to Vernon Jubilee Hospital, was examined by doctors and has since been released.

According to officials the officer and a second cruiser were on their way to Enderby for a report of a prowler.

The lead vehicle came to a right hand curve about a half kilometre north of Pleasant Valley Road when it left the road, rolled and came to rest on the passenger side.

"Our officer, a four year member, had to be extracted from the vehicle using the Jaws of Life," says RCMP spokesman, Gord Molendyk.

"He was taken to Vernon Jubilee Hospital by ambulance. He was conscious and talking to emergency personnel when he left the scene."

The stretch of highway was closed for a short time then reduced to single lane traffic while the crash scene was being investigated.
