Westside Peregrine Squadron

Our area is growing, and so the Commanding Officer, Staff, and Parents of the Westside Sponsoring Committee have chartered the new Westside 909 Peregrine Squadron Royal Canadian Air Cadets. This is the Westside's first official Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron.

Air Cadets are encouraged to become active, responsible members of their communities. They learn valuable life and work skills like teamwork, leadership, and citizenship.

Air Cadets learn to pilot gliders and planes, and participate in other flight-related activities. Cadets meet one evening a week and on some weekends. There are courses and activities that are mandatory but approximately a third of the program is classed as optional - allowing 909 Peregrine Squadron to tailor our training to available resources and local interests.

The Charter Presentation Parade will take place at the Westbank Community Centre at 2466 Main Street, Westbank April 26 at 7:00 p.m.

The presentation of a "Charter" to a cadet Squadron is in basic terms its authorization to function officially as a Squadron. After a fairly lengthy accreditation process, the Charter for a cadet unit is authorized and issued to the Squadron by the Department of National Defence and its partner in the Canadian Cadet Organization, the Air Cadet League of Canada.

A ranking officer of the Pacific Region Cadet Support Unit from Victoria will officiate at the presentation ceremony. Also present will be a senior official of the BC Committee of the Air Cadet League of Canada.
