Warm weather keeps criminals active

Crime numbers in Vernon/North Okanagan are up for this time of year.
According to the Vernon RCMP, there were 621 total calls for service in the region over the past week.
“That represents a fairly significant call volume,” said Vernon RCMP Gerry Kovacs.
“It’s maintaining a summer pace. So I guess the good weather has been good for everybody.”
Vernon RCMP lodged 66 prisoners in cells last week, which was also an elevated number.
There were 19 reports to Crown Counsel and 18 warrants were executed.
“All those numbers are representative, and are up. Not significantly up but they are up for this time of year. Obviously with the warm weather people still think it’s summer out there,” said Kovacs.
With the continued warm autumn weather, people are reminded to ensure their homes and vehicles are secured.
