Talk about being in the right place at the right time!
Two Ontario skiers are lucky to be alive after getting lost in the backcountry at Big White. The 50-year old man and his 45-year old wife had been skiing in the Gem Lake area Sunday and became confused when they tried to take a different route back to the bottom of the hill.
Fortunately, Search and Rescue members from Kelowna were training in the area and saw fresh tracks leading into the nearby creek. They used snowmobiles in the rugged terrain and eventually located the pair who were exhausted and had no survival gear.
