John Kosmino knows firsthand what it's like to walk in the shoes of an Auxiliary RCMP member and that is why he wanted to show his appreciation for Auxiliary officers hard work.
Kosmino owns Hilltop Subaru in Vernon and is a 23 year veteran of RCMP Auxiliary.
He wanted to give back to the community by re-painting and re-decaling the RCMP owned vehicle.
Kosmino remembers that when he was a Constable, Auxiliaries would ride around with RCMP members, instead of in their own vehicle.
The last dedicated vehicle available to the Auxiliaries was a van that was retired three years ago.
Vernon Auxiliary Constable Darrel Wihnon says the new vehicle will be used for such things as Child ID, school programs, parades and special events.
"It is outfitted to carry our equipment and bikes, and is dedicated to our mobility. ”
Dale Fennell, of Enderby, whose been an Auxiliary Constable for 29 years says he is pleased that the new ride will be available whenever they show up to do their jobs.
"No more hunting around for the vehicle that was supposed to be available, and sometimes is not."
RCMP Superintendent Reg Burgess says the Auxiliaries do tremendous work in the community.
"This is going to help a lot, as they will be completely mobile by themselves and will not have to depend on a member to get to spots where they are needed in Vernon and the North Okanagan.”
The fully equipped 2006 Chev Equinox LS will be available to Auxiliary Constables in their many roles in the community.
