Hundreds attend Botkin funeral

Castanet's Kelly Hayes reports from Enderby

Hundreds of mourners lined the streets in Enderby to pay their last respects to Daniel Botkin.

The funeral procession for the fallen firefighter began from the Enderby Chamber of Commerce and progressed through the town, ending at the Enderby Arena.

Hundreds of firefighters, led by Enderby Fire Chief Kevin Alstad, participated in the honour guard, accompanied by members of the RCMP and other emergency services from across BC.

Lining the parade route were hundreds of residents, all paying their respects to the young Captain.

Castanet's Trevor Rockliffe spoke to Elsie Kriger after the procession had passed by.

10 year-old Porter Johnson carried a sign which read "We salute our emergency workers." He told Castanet that he wanted to show his support for everything they do.

An over flow crowd stood outside the arena as funeral services began, as the number of mourners far outnumbered the capacity of the building.

A speaker was set up so those outside could still hear the service, which included an emotional eulogy from Missy, a long time friend and former school mate of Botkin.

BC Lieutenant Governor Steven Point also spoke during the service.
