Update: Fatal crash victim Id'd

Update: Monday April 4 - 82-year-old Howard Nixon Horning of Vernon has been identified as the man killed in Sunday's crash. Police says Horning's wife, the driver of the van, remains in intensive care at VJH. RCMP continue to investigate the crash.

A Vernon man is dead after a crash on Highway 97 Sunday morning in Vernon.

At about 9:48 a.m. on April 3, emergency personnel were called to a serious motor vehicle accident at Highway 97 and Highland Road in Vernon.

A red Ford mini-van that was turning left onto Highland Road from Highway 97 when it collided with a southbound grey Mazda car.

"There were two occupants in the mini-van at the time of the collision," says RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk.

The driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries but the passenger died at the scene.

The driver of the Mazda was taken to hospital and was later released," says Molendyk.

The accident closed a portion of the highway for several hours while the crash analyst and officers investigated this crash scene.

"Investigators advised that the occupants of the van are from Vernon and the driver of the Mazda is from the Salmon Arm area."
