Greater Vernon Water in conjunction with Interior Health Authority has issued a Boil Water Notice for all customers on the Duteau Creek Water Supply.
The recent rains have increased water levels in Duteau Creek causing the turbidity to exceed an average over 5 NTU.
Due to this increase in turbidity (cloudiness) the water quality is now rated as POOR.
This Boil Water Notice will be in affect until further notice.
Greater Vernon Water recommends that all customers in the affected area drink boiled water or a safe alternative.
Until further notice, water intended for the following uses should be boiled for one minute:
drinking
washing fruits and vegetables
making beverages or ice
brushing teeth
Boiled water should then be refrigerated in a clean, covered container. Customers may also choose to use bottled or distilled water, or water that has been filtered through a well-maintained treatment device.
Water Filters should have the designation “Absolute one micron Certified NSF Standard #53”.
Greater Vernon Water is taking additional measures to reduce risk, and a notification will be issued when water quality has improved.
