Vernon RCMP learned yesterday that the man involved in the fatal car crash that took the life of Auxiliary Constable Glen Evely and hospitalized another member of the RCMP early Saturday morning, had supplied a false identity. It turns out he was 23 and not 18 years old as he claimed.
Therefore Michael Douglas O’Brien of Vernon will charged as an adult and will appear in Provincial Court this morning at 9:00 am to face the charges of criminal negligence causing death and criminal negligence causing bodily harm.
The Constable driving the police vehicle remains in Kelowna Hospital in the Intensive Care Unit with serious, but stable injuries.
On a related note, the Vernon RCMP has become aware of attempts by unknown telemarketers to use the recent death of an Auxiliary Constable in Vernon to solicit funds from the public. The RCMP is not soliciting funds from the public.
