Vernon Auxiliary Funeral/Trust Fund

Funeral arrangements and a trust fund are being organized in the wake of last weekend's tragedy in Vernon that claimed the life of an auxiliary RCMP officer.

Glen Evely, 39, was killed early Saturday morning when a stolen pick-up truck rammed his police car. The constable driving the car remains listed in serious but stable condition. Vernon RCMP spokesman Gordon Molendyk says the next 24 hours will be crucial for the officer. The constable's name has not been released.

Molendyk says Evely's family has requested a private service, but adds there will be a regimental service following that.

Molendyk says the funeral will be held sometime this week and that a trust fund is being set up for Evely's family. He leaves behind a wife and two young children. Details will be released soon and posted on Castanet.

Meanwhile, the 18-year-old man driving the stolen pick-up truck is still in hospital suffering from back and neck injuries. He may also have been impaired at the time of the crash. The suspect’s name has not been released.

His alleged 16-year-old female accomplice, who was not injured in the crash, has been released and is due to appear in court in January.
