Alcohol contributes to fatal crash

RCMP in Vernon say alcohol was likely a factor in the death of a 25-year-old Kelowna man Sunday night.

Police spokesman, Gord Molendyk, says RCMP were called to the scene of a single vehicle crash on Highway 97 near Kalamalka Lake Road about 6:30 Sunday evening.

"A Green Ford F-150 was heading south on Highway 97 when the driver lost control on a single curve going off road to the right and striking a rock embankment," says Molendyk.

"The truck struck the rock ledge and rolled down the highway. The driver was ejected and succumbed to his injuries."

Police have identified the victim as Travis Brett Klein, 25, of Kelowna.

Molendyk says speed, alcohol and failure to wear a seat belt were likely contributors to the crash.

North Okanagan Traffic Services and the B.C. Coroner's Office are investigating.
