Rising energy and transportation costs are being called factors in the closure of a large manufacturing plant in the North Okanagan.
A glass container plant, operated by Owens-Illinois Inc, is being closed in Lavington, near Vernon.
A representative from Owen-Illinois Inc came to the Lavington plant Friday morning to announce the closure.
Some 300 workers will lose their jobs. The last day of production at the facility is scheduled for October 31.
The company has said it will try to help workers find new jobs.
This is the third Canadian plant the company has closed this year, the first two being in Toronto and New Brunswick.
In all, Owens-Illinois has 82 plants across the world.
