One crook has learned the hard way not run from a police dog.
A 41-year-old Vernon man is behind bars after being brought down by a police dog early Monday morning.
RCMP spokesman, Gord Molendyk, says they responded to a report of a break and enter just after 1 a.m.
“The man was seen exiting a business in the area of the Polson Park Mall. The suspect was then seen getting into a newer model Dodge Ram pickup. The plates indicated it was stolen.
Molendyk says the police then set up a perimeter around the area, including a spike belt.
“The vehicle drove over the spike belt, so the driver ditched it and took off on foot. The police dog was called out and the dog located the suspect. The suspect tried to flee and as a result was injured when the dog bit his leg.”
The man was taken to the hospital to have his injuries treated.
He is facing several charges including, B & E, mischief and possession of stolen property.
