Thieves At Work

RCMP are reminding all vehicle owners to be extra vigilant about not leaving valuables in plain sight inside their vehicle when parking in the city or surrounding area.

Gordon Molendyk of the Vernon RCMP Safe Communities Unit says there has been a sharp increase in thefts from within vehicles recently. "We've had a dozen or more in the last two days alone," he says.

“If people are going on a hike or to the beach,” says Molendyk, “it’s best for them to place their purses or wallets in a back pack and take them with them.”

Molendyk says, “It appears individuals are targeting vehicles where the owners are placing items in the trunk in the parking lots just prior to leaving their vehicles unattended.”
