Vernon Bullies Busted

Two Vernon men are facing charges following a series of bizarre incidents last week.

The events unfolded last Thursday afternoon when Vernon RCMP were dispatched to a disturbance in the area of the Pier on Kal Beach.

"What started out as a conversation between two females and three males turned into a shoving match and people being pushed into the water," says RCMP spokesman, Gord Molendyk.

"Two of the males were leaving the area a short time later when one of them stole a bike from a 14 year old male who was on the beach at the time. The owner of the bike gave chase. The Vernon Bike Patrol members happened to be in the area and they arrested the 20 year old male suspect on the bike a short distance away. He faces charges of assault and theft under."

Molendyk says two plain clothes officers were on location as well and noticed one of the young men still near the pier, had a can of bear spray in his hands.

"The 20 year old suspect was ordered to the ground and was disarmed of the spray. The safety mechanism was disengaged at the time and the suspect had his thumb on the trigger ready to use it."

Molendyk says the man was extremely intoxicated when he was arrested. He will face charges of assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon, and breach of conditions.
