Edmonton doctor suspects car was keyed due to Alberta plates

Visiting Dr.'s car keyed

An Edmonton doctor visiting Vernon with family over the B.C. Day long weekend was discouraged to find his vehicle keyed.

In an email to Vernon's mayor and council shared by Coun. Akbal Mund, Param Bhardwaj says: "If someone wishes to commit an act of vandalism based on my residence, then at the very least own it. Put your name on it. Don’t be a coward."

Bhardwaj says he was "very discouraged by the actions of a certain unnamed citizen of Vernon, and I am reporting an act of vandalism which is downright frustrating."

Bhardwaj says his vehicle was keyed – "likely due to my Alberta licence plate."

The doctor says he works on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic and notes that active cases in Edmonton (population 1.5 million) are far fewer than those in the Interior Health region – "by about 100."

"I am happy to offer up all of my contact information so that I may speak to the individual who damaged my vehicle face to face. But, the point of this message is to raise a sense of awareness in your own community and help educate your citizens," writes Bhardwaj.

"Feel free to publish my name, this letter, and any other information you may need. Unlike the vandal, I am not a coward. I am happy to share my views with the good citizens of Vernon."
