Bears have been spotted roaming a neighbourhood in the Spallumcheen district this week.
The first instance was a black bear nosing around a bird feeder in the Stepping Stones area on Sunday. The second was a brown bear who was spotted prowling around the Desert Cove neighbourhood around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, which was also seen munching on some bird seed.
"Scat had been seen in several yards for a few days," says Betty Hunter, a resident of the Desert Cove neighbourhood. "We have quite a few bears in this area at this time of year, and cougars and bobcats have been known to be around here as well."
The brown bear walked around the neighbourhood for a little while before it was seen hopping a fence and headed into the Spallumcheen Golf & Country Club.
