Thieves take propane bottles

Propane bottles have been disappearing in Vernon recently.

Castanet has heard of several instances where propane bottles that have gone missing from travel trailers.

Vernon RCMP Const. Kelly Brett said police are aware of the increased theft of propane tanks over the past few weeks, and are investigating.

“When a propane bottle is recovered by police, it is hard to determine who that tank belongs to as there are often no distinguishing marks or serial numbers associated to them,” said Brett.

“Tracking down a victim and or proving it's stolen property is difficult when recovered. Labelling the tanks with identifiable markings or numbers unique to the owner is a good start in being able to identify the tank if recovered.”

Brett said RV owners are reminded to secure their propane tanks or store them out of sight when not in use.
