Still trying to save the planet

Area high school students are not giving up on their goal to save the world.

Once again students cut class on a Friday to hold a demonstration to raise awareness for the plight of the planet.

Kieran Grandbois said the movement is taking place in 70 countries around the world.

They have held more than half a dozen such rallies in Vernon and Grandbois said they will continue.

But are people getting the message?

“I believe people are listening. The more we keep the pressure on the more change will be created and faster,” said Grandbois.

“It may be slow change at first, but it is still change.”

The next strike will be held on June 1 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Vernon courthouse.

“We will be continuing our weekend strikes, but we will be stopping out school strikes until the 2019-2020 school year,” he said.

Grandbois said all four secondary schools in Vernon are taking part in the protests.

Elementary schools are also taking part in the protest.

“We need immediate action. If we can keep the pressure on then we can hopefully see change rather than later,” said Grandbois.
