Crash Closes Highway

Two people are in hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries following a head-on collision on Highway 97 near Armstrong Wednesday morning.

It happened shortly after 8 o'clock when a northbound Volkswagen Rabbit crossed the centre line and collided with a southbound pick-up truck.

RCMP say the collision was so violent, it sent the pick-up over an embankment and dislodged the engine from the Rabbit.

Both drivers were transported to Vernon Jubilee Hospital with undetermined injuries.

The female driver of the Rabbit caused the crash and is facing charges under the Motor Vehicle Act.

The highway was closed for about 90 minutes while the accident scene was cleared.
