Environment Canada Forecast
As of 3:42 pm, a snowfall warning is continuing for the Okanagan Valley. Snowfall will amount 10 to 20 cm through tonight.
A strong ridge of high pressure will maintain very cold conditions over northern and central British Columbia for the next few days. Moderate winds combined with the cold temperatures have produced extreme wind chill of minus 45 at Fort St John and minus 38 in Yoho park. Wind chill at North Columbia is near minus 30 and will lower to below minus 35 tonight. Such conditions will continue through Monday.
An intensifying low pressure system has moved onto the Washington coast. The low is producing heavy snowfalls over much of the southern interior. 5 to 10 cm of snow has accumulated with local reports of up to 19 at higher elevations. Further snowfall amounts of 5 to 10 cm with local amounts up to 20 are expected through tonight before snow tapering to flurries Monday morning.
Blizzard conditions have developed over Fraser Canyon near Lytton. Temperatures will remain below minus 10. Strong northerly winds 40 to 60 km/h are producing blowing snow and lowering the visibility to less than 1 kilometre. These conditions are expected to continue through late this evening before the strong wind eases.
Environment Canada will continue to monitor any new development with this system.
