Calling all extras

Filming in the Southern Interior is about to ramp up.

In the next month, the Okanagan will play host to at least three major film productions, and the call has gone out for large numbers of extras for each of them.

"One production is calling for over 350 people in a three-week span and one of the others needs at least 100 people for a single scene," explains Okanagan extras liaison for Boss Management, Paul Cousins.

Cousins says that they have been contacted by all three productions to provide extras.

"Boss Management has been contacted by all three productions to provide background submissions for these shooting dates, and they are all companies we have worked with before. And, as the local liaison for Boss in the Okanagan, it is my job to find the people to fill those requests."

Although the names of the productions have not been released, Cousins says one of them is a franchise that has shot here several times before using many Boss faces, and another one begins filming in less than a week, "so we encourage people to sign up quickly to be considered for any, or all three."

Cousins says while these productions will have open casting calls, people can bypass these by registering with the agency and they will submit their profiles directly on their behalf.

"Although anyone of any age can be called upon for background work, these productions have put out an advance call for ethnic teens, and males of all ages and background, because the productions are attempting to make the area look as if it is shot in the US, and our demographic in the area doesn’t match up. So, we are especially on the hunt for persons of visibly-ethnic backgrounds to sign up and be submitted."

Cousins says there's no cost to sign up through www.CastingRoom.com, the website it uses to submit talent directly to the productions.

"People can upload their photos, social media links, and resume of experience both film-related and work-related for consideration," explains Cousins.

"Children, adults, seniors are all welcome to register for free, which will increase their exposure to these productions and give people a better chance at appearing in them, as these productions casting directors prefer to deal with an agency rather than contacting hundreds of people directly themselves."
