A cheque for more than $4,000 was presented to the North Okanagan Hospice Society at Vernon's Co-op on Monday.

The donation was raised at the second annual Fuel Good Day last week which takes part at Co-op gas bars in Vernon, Armstrong and Salmon Arm.

"The money supports our programs for those people who are at end of life," said Ruth Edwards, executive director, North Okanagan Hospice Society. "We fundraise approximately $700,000 every year."

"Some of that fundraising we do ourselves but a great amount of that fundraising comes through corporations and organizations like the Armstrong Co-op who fundraise on our behalf."

The $4,063 raised will go towards 'end of life programs' at the NOHS, says Edwards.

"Vernon is very fortunate to have a hospice house," she said. "We have a very small community to have hospice house, as a matter of fact, the smallest community in B.C. to have a hospice house."

"The services that we provide for the residents of the North Okanagan are really second to none," she said. "We support not only the person who is ill but also their family members."

Fuel Good Day also raised $2,794 for the local food bank in Armstrong and Salmon Arm raised $3,560 for the Shuswap Hospital Foundation.

The biggest fundraiser of the year for the NOHS is Dancing with the Vernon Stars taking place this Friday.

If you would like to donate to the NOHS you can donate online or go visit the society in person.
