Attacked with bear spray

Multiple people were sprayed with bear spray on Tuesday evening at Coldstream's Kalamalka Beach near Vernon.

When Vernon RCMP arrived on scene at about 8:30 p.m. they found several teens and witnesses affected by the bear spray.

Police searched the area, found and apprehended a 16 year old man from Vernon.

Some of the victims, mostly youths and teens were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

"The information gathered by police confirmed this was not a random attack and that there was a prior connection between the suspect and the targeted victims," says Cpl. Yannick Lescarbeau.

Vernon RCMP is recommending charges of assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose against the young offender but investigators would like to speak with any additional witnesses.
