It was a party attended by thousands of people at SilverStar Mountain Resort Saturday when the mountain officially opened its new gondola.
The day featured a free barbecue, games, activities and of course, free gondola rides.
“It's a very exciting day here at SilverStar Mountain Resort,” said Wesla Wong, media relations and communications. “We invited the whole community up. It has been a great turn out.”
The gondola will add a new dimension to the popular North Okanagan ski hill.
It can transport people from the village to the top of the mountain in less than five minutes.
Wong said it is also a year-round attraction that will benefit more than just skiers and snowboarders.
“The gondola will enhance visitors' experiences starting this weekend and well into the future. People don't always want to take a chairlift but now there is the option of the gondola. Whether you are hiking or skiing or snowboarding, it's a great option for our visitors.”
