Locals on Canadian shortlist

A trio of Okanagan businesses are among a prestigious group named to the shortlist for a significant Canadian business prize.

The FedEx Small Business Grant Program will see more than $100,000 worth of capital and business services handed out to 10 small Canadian businesses. Today, the company announced the Top 75 finalists for the prizes.

Along with the body-positive Lake Country leggings company SweetLegs, two other shortlisted businesses hail from Vernon; Farm Bound Organics delivers organic food through an easy online ordering platform, while Birch Hill Studio sells solely Canadian-made or designed products.

The finalists were selected from a pool of more than 2,100 applicants from across Canada. They now have a chance to win one of ten grants, including a top prize of $25,000, a $5,000 marketing package, and a meeting with FedEx Canada President Lisa Lisson.

Jaye Coward is the founder and owner of Farm Bound Organics. She found out early this morning Farm Bound had been named to the list.

“I couldn’t believe it. I followed the entries when I first entered the contest and I thought ‘oh my God, there’s no way (we’ll ever get chosen)’ so it’s just really exciting,” she said.
