An early morning fire at Gorman Brothers Lumber in Westbank has forced the mill's closure -- at least temporarily.
"The sawmill will definitely be closed at least through the weekend. Shipping and log receiving might remain operational," says company President Ron Gorman.
He says there were no injuries.
Westside Assistant Fire Chief, Brian Livingstone, says the fire was called in just before 7 am Wednesday and it started in the dust and wood chip collection bins.
He says it spread to the ceilings in some of the older offices.
Crews from both the Westbank and Glenrosa halls responded to the blaze.
"We were able to get the fire under control within an hour," says Livingstone.
He credited company mill workers for fighting the blaze and getting fire lines in place prior to the WFD's arrival.
Livingstone says with all the dust and wood chips in the vicinity, it's difficult to pin-point a direct cause.
