UPDATE: 3:40 p.m.

A large amount of snow has fallen off the roof of a building on SilverStar Mountain damaging a large gas meter.

The Silver Creek Lodge, Asgard Hostel at SilverStar and homes within 100 metres of the leak have been evacuated for the safety of guests.

Crews are working to repair the damaged gas meter but first they must remove the snow.

Due to the gas leak, large equipment can not be used in the snow removal process, slowing efforts to repair the damage.

Stargas Utilities is the natural gas supplier for SilverStar Resort. Fortis BC is on site helping to assess the damage and assist in repairs.
