Good news for Good Food

There is good news for the Good Food Box program.

Earlier this week, it was announced the program would end, but an outpouring of support and some dedicated volunteers are keeping the program going.

The program provides fresh fruit and vegetables to some 400 people at wholesale prices every month.

Christine Fraser, whos been volunteering with the program for seven years, said Kohler Hytec in Spallumcheen has provided a “substantial donation” that will keep the program running through April.

The program was being operated under the umbrella of the Food Action Society of the North Okanagan, but society officials said “unfortunately, the GFB has been losing paying customers for a number of years and the financial model no longer works.”

Fraser said they are looking into making the GFB program its own society so it can issue tax receipts.

In the meantime, they are hoping to join with another society until that happens.

“There are a couple different societies that said they could probably,” said Fraser, adding she can not go into more detail at this time.

Since news of the program's possible demise became known, there has been an outpouring of support and concern.

“People are calling and asking what they can do to help; how they can donate,” said Fraser.
