Thief grabs cash from till

Josh Winquist

Vernon Battery, now Polar Battery, fell victim to a thief on Feb 15.

Darian Gaspar from Polar Battery says at around 10 a.m. a young man came into the store asking for staff to take a look at his sister's car battery.

While staff checked out the problem, the thief grabbed cash from the till.

"Two vehicles pulled in, he was in a truck, his sister was in another vehicle and they pulled in at the same time," explains Gaspar.

The young man asked if he could have a coffee while the staff member looked at the vehicle.

Surveillance footage shows the young man leave the frame and come back with a jug of water for the Keurig machine. From there he is seen reaching over the counter, opening up the till and grabbing the money.

"Two seconds after he left the store, the staff came to the front of the store," said Gaspar.

RCMP have been notified and are investigating.

There turned out to be an issue with the vehicle, and staff were able to fix it.

"We were just helping them out and no one even noticed that was gone."

Gaspar says the amount of theft in Vernon is getting out of hand.

The suspect looks to be between 18 to 25-years-old and was wearing a Toronto Blue Jays hat. He drove what's believed to be a Honda Ridgeline truck.

Gaspar is hoping if anyone recognizes the young man they'll call the RCMP.
