Injured fighting fire

A firefighter was injured while battling the blaze that engulfed an Okanagan Landing home Tuesday morning.

"We had a firefighter that was injured," said David Lind, interim Fire Chief. "He had a fall from a short ladder and he is doing well." 

One person captured some footage of the fire before crews arrived and sent it to Castanet. 

The abandoned house went up in flames at the end of Cummins Road. 

Neighbours say they started seeing fire trucks around 5:45 a.m.

The cause of the fire in unknown and has been turned over to Vernon RCMP.

An early morning house fire in the Okanagan Landing area of Vernon is all but contained. 

The fire broke out in an abandoned house at the end of Cummins Road. 

Neighbours say they started seeing fire trucks around 5:45 a.m.

"It started with two, but at one point we counted four," said Marcy Arnold who lives on the street. 

Arnold says that the house has been boarded up since around the summer.

"From what we could tell it was boarded up pretty tight. They did a good job."

According to neighbours the house used to be used as a marijuana grow house. 

There are no reports of injuries, or what caused the fire.

Firefighters are still on the scene of a house fire in the Okanagan Landing area of Vernon, but it does appear to be contained.

From pictures and posts by users of the Vernon and Area Community Forum, it appears the house is located on Cummings Road. 

One photo posted by Marcy Arnold shows the damage. In the photo, a trail of smoke is escaping from a large hole created by the blaze. 

No word on a cause or if there are any injuries. 

Castanet will have more information as it becomes available.

Facebook users of the Vernon and Area Community Forum have posted pictures of what appears to be a house fire in the Okanagan Landing area of Vernon. 

Images posted are from a far distance, but show emergency crews are on the scene, and smoke billowing up into the air. 

The exact area is uncertain, but reports on social media suggest that it may be on Cummins Road.

Castanet will have more information as it becomes available.
